In this blog, I would like to share a beautiful story about our cycling tour in the stunning country of Georgia. First and foremost, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Georiders Team, particularly Davit and Otari, who contributed to making our bike tour an unforgettable experience filled with beautiful memories in Tusheti National Park.

Our journey began in this manner: we reached out to Georiders, and the communication was both straightforward and prompt. We booked our flights and traveled to Tbilisi, Georgia, by plane. Upon our arrival in Tbilisi, we met our friends Gia and Davit from Georiders. Gia welcomed us with wine at the airport, and we commenced our celebration right there at the airport.

We traveled straight to the Kakheti wine region, where we enjoyed two wonderful nights at Gia's wine cellar in his hotel, Tetri Bairagebi, marked by white flags. Gia taught us how to pronounce Georgian toasts, and we sampled the finest delicate Georgian cuisine.

On the third day, Davit and Otar arrived early in the morning in Kakheti, marking the beginning of our journey in Tusheti National Park. We loaded our bicycles and luggage into two stunning Nissan Patrol vehicles, and our bikes were secured on a specialized bike trailer provided by Georiders, which Davit explained was designed by him. The trailer was exceptionally safe for transportation, considering the rough roads in Tusheti, particularly on the Abano Pass.

We commenced our journey on the picturesque Abano Pass, renowned for its beauty and recognized as one of the top 10 most perilous roads in Europe. The drive was quite secure, and after three hours of travel, we arrived at the summit. We began our cycling 5 kilometers before reaching the peak, covering this distance on our bikes. The views were breathtaking, and the mountains were magnificent. We were the first cycling group in 2025 to traverse the pass by bicycle. The Abano Pass had only opened one day prior, and the road was littered with numerous rocks and ice; however, for experienced drivers and cyclists, the route was safe..

At the summit, which stands at an altitude of 2960 meters, Davit and Otar prepared a delightful lunch accompanied by coffee. The coffee was exceptionally flavorful in such a beautiful setting, making it the best coffee I have ever tasted.

From the summit, we began our descent to Omalo, and along the way, we passed through the villages of Khiso, Tsokalta, and Kumelaurta.

As I maintain, the Abano Pass has just been opened, and the residents have only recently begun to settle in Omalo. The guest houses were closed; however, there was a lovely lady named Anna who graciously hosted us in her hotel.

We had a wonderful time at her hotel, where she prepared exquisite meals for us, and we enjoyed warm showers. During dinner, we celebrated our gathering and exchanged numerous stories. Davit and Otar shared many fascinating tales about Tusheti, their travels, and their experiences with mountain biking.

I would like to share some lovely photographs from Day 1 in Tusheti. I strongly recommend reaching out to Georiders if you wish to ensure that your tour is the best it can be.
