Kazbegi - Spring - MTB - Road to Kazbegi

If you are planning to visit Kazbegi you should know few things. kazbegi is mountaineer region and it's located 180 km away from capital city Tbilisi and before you get to Kazbegi you should cross few passes and there is quite difficult pass called Jvari pass at altitude 2395 meters. It's located at Ski resort Gudauri, the road is very narrow and quite steep. The pass crossing lot of big tracks and trailers and sometimes the locked the roads, I mean lock the roads that track get stuck in the corner of the road and they get engine problems or gear problems and evacuation takes the time and the road is locked for few hours, it's means that you should take more time to get in kazbegi when you expecting. Now government works for new project and Chines company building the new tunnel 9km from village Tskere Khada valley to village Kobi, project should be done in 2024 September.

I hope the road problems will be solved in end of 2024.

Now lets go to MTB tours in Kazbegi. In Kazbegi we have 3 beautiful locations for MTB tours.

Option 1 - beautiful Truso valley. Truso valley for bike tours opening beginning of May but sometime ice is to high and time is postponing until end of May. Truso valley is magical place, There is huge mountains and rivers and monasteries, also lot of ruined villages and ice on top of the picks, also you can meet mineral water geyser.

Option 2 - Sno valley. Sno valley takes us to village Juta and you can cross 2 beautiful passes "Sadzele pass" and "Chaukhi pass". If you visited Juta you should visit Juta lake wich is located at beautiful landscape undar the Chaukhi mountains, you can ride there on single track or you can leave a bike at cafe bar in Juta and go for a walk 5km. Juta is a small village located at altitude 2000 meters and to get there is only possible from May until December, the road is closed in winter time.

Option 3 - it is for extreme riders, It call ride to mountain Kazbegi. Riding possible from Stepantsminda to Sameba Trinity church and from there you should push your bike till Meteo station 10km up hill, from Meteo hut you can ride via Alti hut back to Stepantsminda via Kavebi glacier. This kind of ride you need Enduro bike and quite technical skills to enjoy technical single tracks. This option works only from June until end of October, after ice will cover the track.
