Abudelauri Lakes: Where Mountain biking Meets the Heart of the Caucasus

Our journey to the Abudelauri Lakes was one of those unforgettable adventures. Hidden high in the Caucasus Mountains, these three alpine lakes—Green, Blue, and White—look almost unreal, each painted with its own unique color and surrounded by dramatic peaks.

The weather wasn’t exactly on our side. Clouds rolled in, the wind picked up, and the temperature kept dropping. But sometimes the best memories come from the moments you don’t overthink. So, despite the cold, we stepped into the crystal-clear water.

The lake was freezing—around 5°C (41°F)—and every second felt like a challenge. Yet, once the initial shock faded, it became one of the most exhilarating experiences of the entire trip. Swimming in a glacial alpine lake, surrounded by untouched wilderness and mountain silence, is something that words can barely describe. It reminded us that the greatest adventures often begin where comfort ends.

As the day slowly came to an end, we traded the mountain breeze for the warm atmosphere of a local restaurant. Nothing tastes better after a long hike than authentic Georgian food, and of course, we couldn't leave without enjoying freshly made khinkali, accompanied by a table full of delicious traditional dishes. It was the perfect ending to a day filled with breathtaking landscapes, unforgettable moments, and a little bit of courage.
